OPPO has launched the closed beta of ColorOS 17. We already know which phones will receive it
first, how the system’s appearance will change, and — most interestingly — that the separate
Realme UI overlay will disappear.
We have gathered what is confirmed and separated it from what is currently a leak.
Which phones are in the ColorOS 17 beta
Registration for the closed tests started on August 6, 2026, with a pool of 300 spots per model.
In the global market, it covers six devices:

In China, the list is broader — it also includes Find X9 Ultra, Find X9s Pro, Find N6,
the Pad 5 Pro tablet, as well as OnePlus 15T and OnePlus Tablet 3 Pro.
Beta builds are being sent to testers in two rounds: August 11 and 13, 2026.
The registration window has already closed, so if you missed it — you will have to wait
for the open beta or stable release.
Is it worth installing the beta?
Note: the closed beta is test software. Before you install it, make sure to
back up your data — reverting to the stable version usually requires wiping the phone.
In short: if this is your only phone, skip it. The closed beta is early
software, where contactless payments, banking, or
the camera may not work. Additionally, reverting to the previous version usually requires wiping the phone.
The beta makes sense if you have a spare device and want to report bugs. Otherwise,
the stable version will come on its own and will just work.
What’s new in ColorOS 17
New Apple-inspired look
The most noticeable change is the graphical layer. According to reports, OPPO is adopting
solutions reminiscent of Liquid Glass from Apple systems — semi-transparent
layers that refract what is underneath them.
It’s worth tempering expectations here. People who have seen early compilations
describe the effect more as “liquid acrylic” than glass — the light refraction is clearly
weaker than that of Apple. Additionally, there are more consistent corner rounding and
lighting effects in notifications.
More refinement than revolution
And this is probably the most important information for those considering an update.
OPPO has confirmed that ColorOS 17 focuses on refining the interface, rather than
rebuilding the way of operation. Don’t expect a new settings layout or
rearranged gestures.
For some users, this is an advantage — there’s no need to learn anything new. For those,
who were counting on major changes, the update may seem unimpressive.
Foundation: Android 17
ColorOS 17 is expected to be based on Android 17. Google releases new versions of the system in the fall,
so the schedule aligns — and OPPO has been keeping to a rhythm for several years, where the new
overlay appears within a few weeks of the release of pure Android.
ColorOS 16 vs. ColorOS 17 — what actually changes
If you have ColorOS 16 today, here’s a fair comparison of what you can expect.

In short: what you see changes, not how you use the phone.
If you’re looking for new features, this update won’t surprise you. If you care
about everything working as it has so far, just looking more modern —
you’ll get exactly that.
It’s also worth remembering something that is rarely mentioned during updates:
the new version of Android also means new security patches. This is usually a stronger
argument for updating than the appearance alone.
The End of Realme UI — what it means for users
This is a topic that has gone almost unnoticed in Polish media.
Realme confirmed at the end of July 2026 that it is phasing out its own Realme UI
and transitioning to ColorOS. New phones will be released with ColorOS, while older
models will receive it with an update.
However, before anyone starts to worry: in practice, not much changes.
Realme UI and ColorOS have shared common code at least since 2022, so we are primarily
talking about a name change and unification of appearance, not a system swap.
Three caveats worth knowing:
- The announcement concerned the Indian market. There is no confirmation that it will
take the same shape in Europe. - There is no schedule. Realme has not provided when older models will receive ColorOS.
- The list of supported phones circulating online is presumed, not official.
Realme has not yet published a list.
If you have a Realme phone, for now, you don’t need to do anything. The accessories will of course remain
the same — cases and glass protectors fit regardless of which overlay is running on the phone.
When is the stable version of ColorOS 17?
There is no official date. Based on the beta schedule and the rhythm of previous years, one can assume,
that the stable release will start in the fall of 2026, beginning with the latest flagships.
The order is usually as follows: first China, then India, and finally Europe. It can take several weeks
between the first and the last market, so if the update doesn’t come immediately — that’s normal.
How to check if your phone has received an update
The procedure is the same on all OPPO, OnePlus, and Realme phones:
- Open Settings
- Go to System and updates
- Select Software update
- Tap the refresh icon or wait for the automatic check
If an update is available, you will see it on this screen. It is advisable to connect your phone
to a charger and Wi-Fi — system packages can weigh several gigabytes, and an interrupted
installation is the most common cause of problems after an update.
Before a major update, it is always a good idea to make a backup. Even if theoretically
the data remains untouched, a few minutes for a backup is a cheap way to ensure peace of mind.

Will my phone get ColorOS 17?
If it is a flagship OPPO, OnePlus, or Realme from the last two years — most likely
yes. There is not yet a complete list; six models from the beta are just the beginning, not a
complete list of supported devices.
